I just purchased a polar F6 HRM and have used it in several classes with different instuctors to calculate my HR and calories burned. I was really suprised to see I only burned 360 cal in an hour class and 300 in a 45min class. One of my instructors thought it was low and wondered if it was working properly. Any advise would be greatfully appreciated!! Thank You, Jennifer R.If you pedal between 110 - 140rpms on cogs 1 - 3 for 30 mins, you should burn close to 500 cals. Interval work will make it more interesting. There is nothing wrong with your armband. I too was surprised when I only burn 300 calories in an hour spin class.....I am an instructor so I am pushing myself to the max. You have to look at your body size too. Bigger people burn more calories...not fair!Bigger people do burn faster, it's natures way of balancing things out. Humans have a natural health zone, and if we live the way we should we'd stay in that zone, when we get way out of that zone nature wants to push us back in, and if it can't it kiils us off sooner, and makes us less desirable mating partners. As we become more fit, nature slows us down. As being "to fit" also is not natural. Take body builders for example, the huge ones, they are much more fit than the zone nature wants us. As a result, if they become injured, or simply stop working out all together, the muscle turns to fat, since their hearts are not used to that much fat, and it happens so quickly, they have heart attacks. Now if these muscle men don't stop, they just do what is natural nature will correct them as well and put them in the natural fit zone pretty quickly.at least this is my understanding, I'm by no means an expert, jsut someone trying to get fit.
Any "simple" machine that claims it's "easy" (Ex: "just watch TV!") to burn 500 calories in 30 minutes is lying to you. I'm a 30 year old guy who visits his gym 4 times a week for slightly less than 2 hours each visit. I'm visibly in good shape, and I kill myself burning 485 calories in 33 minutes on treadmills and ellipticals. Remember: If it sounds too good to be true - it is. There is no "Easy" way to having a truly healthy, fit and strong body - it takes f---ing WORK.you need to try the spinning classI agree you need to try a spinning class. I'm also a gym bunny and spinning beats the treadmills and elipicals by miles. You come out of a spinning class literally dripping with sweat!
Spinning will Burn massive calories - during and after the work out. I calculate thatin a 1hour 30 spin session (45 minutes class plus an additional 45 minutes hard on my own before the class I burn approx 1800 calories.
i weigh 105Kg and i absoulty love spinning as it is a FUN AND ENJOYABLE CLASS. I must say at first i didnt want to try it and now that i have tried it im hooked on it, i go every tuesday and saturday and sunday, i didnt even know how many calories it burnt until i looked at the statistics. WOW!! TO PEOPLE WHO HAVE NOT TRIED SPINNING, GIVE IT A GO AND U WILL SEE ITS HARD WORK BUT THE MOST ENJOYABLE HARDWORK EVER.
I go for 500 cals each 30 min session on the stationary bike and it is definitely a feeling of achievement. I do interval work so the workout takes longer as boredom can set in. Its great nonetheless.
excuse my ignorance, but what is this "spinning" of which u speak? do you mean spinning around in circles as kids do?NO. Look up spinning (indoor cycling) and you will see what the rave is all about
I'm a certified Spinning Instructor in New Jersey and I can guarantee anyone who takes my class on the regular and puts forth the effort and I do mean puts forth the effort will routinely burn over a 1,000 calories in my class! Additionally, the music I use may remind you of ' happy hour ' thereby relieving your mind of the challenges my class parcipitates!...Jim
Hello! The calories you burn while exercising in a short time, depends of your physical condition. I love spinning! It is a wonderful, fun and pretty complete thing to practice. If you are totally dedicated to the class, you could burn minimum 500-700 Calories in 30-45 minutes, and over 1000 calories in 90 minutes. My advice is to get music like electronic to follow its time. Now, if you have an instructor in the gym, follow the best you can his/her beat, because he/she tells you how to spin in time to the music. Some people go too slow or without enough intensity. Most of the instructor that I had before used to say that they are like a mirror: his left leg is your right leg and all you have to do is to pedal as fast or slow as he/she does, in that way you can have an excellent work out. It takes a while, but helps a lot. And do not forget the technique!
I have been spinning for about two months now and I am happy to say that i have lost about 20lbs. I am totally dedicated to the class and I go everyday. I tried other routines and nothing was as effective as spinning. Keep in mind though that I follow my instructur and I have a high tolerance level. I go all out in every class. I always make every secound count. I hope that in a few more months I will be in my ideal weight.
